What Size Nylon American Flag Do I Need?
The right flag size depends on your pole height. As a general rule, the flag's fly length (the longer dimension) should be roughly one-quarter of the pole's height. Here's a quick reference for the most common setups:
For a 15–20 ft residential pole, a 3x5 nylon flag is the standard choice. For a 25 ft pole, a 4x6 gives a bolder presence. A 30 ft pole calls for a 5x8 or 6x10. For large commercial poles at 40 ft and above, flags start at 8x12 and scale up from there.

How Our Nylon Flags Are Built
Not all nylon flags are the same. The imported flags sold on discount sites are typically made from thin, single-ply fabric with minimal stitching and cheap plastic-coated grommets. They look fine in the package and fall apart within weeks of outdoor flying.

Premium 200-denier nylon fabric — heavy enough to hold its shape and fly with presence, light enough to catch even the faintest breeze.
UV-resistant, colorfast dyes — our reds, whites, and blues are dyed to resist fading from direct sun exposure, keeping the flag looking sharp through seasons of daily flying.
Four-row lock-stitched fly end — the fly end is where flags fray first. We reinforce it with a double-fold hem and four rows of lock stitching to stop wear before it starts.
Heavy canvas header — the white canvas strip on the hoist side is thick and substantial, not the thin nylon webbing used on budget flags. It holds its shape and protects the grommets from tearing through the fabric.

How Long Does a Nylon American Flag Last?
Under typical residential conditions — moderate wind, full sun, daily flying — a nylon flag will last approximately 3 to 6 months. In milder climates with lower wind and less direct sun, nylon flags can last considerably longer. In high-wind or coastal environments, lifespan shortens and our 2-ply polyester flag is the better investment.
You can extend the life of any nylon flag by bringing it in during severe weather, rotating between two flags throughout the year, and hand-washing periodically with mild soap and cool water to remove dirt and pollutants that break down fabric over time. Always air dry completely before reattaching to the pole.

Nylon vs. Polyester — Which Flag Is Right for You?
Choose nylon if: you're flying at a home or standard commercial property, your area has light to moderate wind, and you want a flag that flies beautifully in calm weather. Nylon is lighter, dries faster, and is the better everyday flag for most of the country.
Choose polyester if: your property is coastal, in an open field, on a rooftop, or in any location with consistently strong or gusty winds. Our 2-ply spun polyester flag is heavier and more abrasion-resistant — it holds up where nylon wears out faster.
