Flag Display for Churches — How to Display Religious Flags in a Sanctuary

The standard flag display for churches is the American flag alongside the Christian flag or denominational flag on either side of the altar, chancel, or stage. The American flag takes the position of honor at the speaker's right (audience's left), and the Christian or denominational flag stands at the speaker's left (audience's right). Both flags should be on matched poles of equal height with matched finials for a consistent, formal appearance.

Gold fringe on indoor flags is the traditional standard for sanctuary display — it gives the flag a formal ceremonial appearance appropriate to a worship setting.
