What Pole Size Fits a 3x5 American Flag?

A 3x5 flag — 3 feet tall by 5 feet wide — is the recommended size for 15 to 25 ft flagpoles, the most common height for residential properties and light commercial properties. It's also the right fit for most wall-mount brackets and residential spinning poles.

For a 20 ft pole, a 3x5 is the standard choice. If you want a bolder, fuller look on a 25 ft pole, stepping up to a 4x6 is worth considering. Poles 30 ft and taller — standard for schools, businesses, and commercial installations — call for a 5x8 or larger flag to maintain proper visual proportion.

How Long Does a 3x5 American Flag Last?

Flag lifespan depends on local wind conditions and how often it flies. Nylon 3x5 flags typically last 3 to 6 months of daily outdoor display. Polyester 3x5 flags last 6 to 12 months under standard conditions, and 3 to 6 months in consistently high-wind areas.

You can extend the life of any flag by bringing it in during severe weather, rotating between two flags throughout the year, and hand-washing periodically to clear out dirt and pollutants that break down fabric over time.
